What computer parts would be good for building an audio production computer?

Max Power

Hi I am trying to build a fast computer to use only for audio, this computer will be used to record and produce songs and audio, i have had trouble with past computers not being able to handle my massive projects, any suggestions on great computer parts or whole computers to use would be helpful, thanks in advance.
Also an estimated price and where would be the best source to buy from would be nice.

Answer
You may go for a strong processor with more cores like i7 as sound generation will stress out the processor. To support the processor you can have a medium type motherboard. Most of all get a good sound card. (Edirol, Creative etc) Those with a quiet Computer case it'll come in handy.

What is the difference between Computer Information Systems and Computer Technology?

Q. Under the Computer Science major there are 2 different emphasis: Computer Information Systems and Computer Technology. What is the difference between the 2 and what kind of different jobs do they get?

Answer
From what I understand ..
Information Systems study mainly involves studying things like..
Data Base, Software design, some form of programing in high level language,Human Computer Interaction, AI etc..
Computer Technology will involve studying..
Some form of programing in machine level/binary level languages, hardware design, networking, etc..
In a nut shell, IS == information storage and retreival methodologies and design.
CT == Hardware design aspect and physical computer.

At least this is what I fond during my studies and working as a tutor at Uni.. Hopes this helps

I think that when you use another e-mail. Enter the email address and password it should not remember your password. You have to tick every box. Every time you use a computer, delete history, delete cookies every time you shut down.

Is a degree in Computer Science good for computer security jobs?

Jonathan

I'm studying Computer Science in school. Right now, I am interested in computer security (such as an information security officer). I want to know if Computer Science is a good degree for this field. I do know that what classes I take are important, too. I would switch majors to Information Assurance and Security Engineering, but I am worried that I might want to go into a different job area that is computer related.

I do plan to speak with an adviser at my school, but I cannot meet with one right now.

Answer
There are several paths that can take you into the Computing Security job area. This is the area I work in. Here are some common degree programs that would align with the Security major.

1. Computer Science
2. Computer Information Systems (this is a general IT degree that may be called by a variety of other titles). This is the degree I have.
3. Specialty Computing Security (may be called by a variety of titles)

Computer Science is the top dog degree as far as versatility and going sideways into other areas than Programming which is the primary CS outcome.

Computer Science includes many Programming and advanced Math courses which makes it the most difficult of the IT degrees to obtain. Many CS students will find themselves having to transfer out into other IT majors because they can't keep up their grades or they realize they can't see themselves being a Programmer and slamming out code as their entire job. Some others will graduate in the major but then seek work in other sectors.

In any of these majors keeping your grades above a 3.0-3.5 GPA average is important. Many employers look at these grades on potential employees. Having a higher average well help you to find a job or internship situation easier. Remember that many gifted students have 3.8-4.0 averages and if you have a 2.8 average you may be competing with others with much higher averages. A 2.5 or 2.8 GPA is not a death sentence to you finding employment but it will make it a longer process for you to find a job. For some employers the GPA minimum is not optional - they have it posted in their job postings. Where I work the 3.0-3.5 minimum is a posted policy minimum. This used to be higher at 3.5 but was recently lowered.

If you decided to go with a Computing Science degree you would need to honestly assess if you can pull a 3.0-3.5 average in that major. In most 4 year Bachelor's degree programs you can transfer out into other Tech majors up to the start of your 3rd year (Junior). After that you will probably lose some credits and it will take more money and time for you to graduate. So right now you could stick with CS and see how it goes for you. If Math is a weak area for you or you see yourself having a tough time keeping a 3.0 you could immediately switch out your degree into CIS or a Security specific major.

Best wishes!

When is it time to purchase a new computer?

Some people I have talked to told me its good to purchase a new computer every 2 years however that could be expensive for most people. I always thought every 4-5 years.

What is your opinion on this?

The computer I own is 11 months old?

Answer
The industry "standard" answer on that question is 3 years.

Technology seems to hit a new high in about that time frame.

However, from a practical standpoint, that could get expensive; you are buying the "latest" technology.

Five years is probably more the norm and besides if you wait a bit, all of the beta bugs and glitches will be worked out and all of the updates will be in one handy "service package."

Actually, if your computer is 10 years old, still working well, and your computing needs have not expanded, I wouldn't upgrade at all.

If you want to use the very latest software, or play the latest games, then, of course, your needs have expanded and you'll need to upgrade.

Hope this helps.....JT

why does my newly assembled computer not start up ,and the fan starts spinning and immediately stops?

Tan

the computer starts spinning then stops immediately, and the computer does not start, is it a problem with the hardware?

Answer
As the others have said.

Let me add some things to consider. Do you get any beep codes? This can pinpoint your problem specifically ( however if you have multiple problems, it will only identify the first, and one that is fixed you may get a different code). How does your computer react after it shuts down? Does it try to come on again without you pushing start, shut down again, etc? If this is the case check your "on" and "reset" buttons. If your on button is stuck, broken, or improperly installed, it can cause such an on-off cycle.

Is your heatsink properly seated and did you properly apply thermal paste. If you were getting an immediate temperature spike in your cpu it would shut down to protect itself.

Are you sure you didn't leave any loose screws or wires in the case that may be causing a short?

Computer repairmen that work at Geek Squad or another computer repair business. A person with a degree of some sort. Also, what would be the salary of a Computer Programmer in the Dallas area? God Bless!

Answer
A good friend of ours owns a communications/networking installation/computer support business in Dallas. For skilled computer repair people he pays $30/hour, it is all contracted work at businesses and corporations and is completely full time. They offer several company benefits such as bonuses, healthcare plan, etc.

We know another person who owns a franchise similar to Geek Squad, he chrages a "trip charge" then bills at $60/hour. He pays the employee at $35/hour, the extra $25 covers employment/advertising costs, the trip charge is basically where his profit sits. Most "house calls" generally tip as well, adding to the pay. His calls are primarily home computer uses rather than businesses. He charges and pays more for after hours/weekend work. While he pays more for his techs, they do not necessarily get 40 hours per week, his techs are only "on the clock" if they are working, and the calls can sometimes be spotty. Some weeks get more than 40 hours, some weeks they get less. They do not have many benefits.

What computer brands allow you to build your own computer?

Q. I know I want to build my own computer for college. But the only brand that I know of that does build computers to your specification is Dell. However, I'm pretty sure that there is another top of the line brand that lets you build your own computer. So if you can have get some more options of brands for which I can choose that will be great.

Answer
All brands let you customize the computer models. But when people talk about building their own computer, that's not what they mean. What they're talking about is purchasing each component individually and putting it together yourself. It's much cheaper than having someone like Dell or HP do it for you. Sites like http://www.newegg.com and http://www.tigerdirect.com will sell you the parts pretty cheap. You need to pick out your components (and make sure that they fit), then assemble them at the end.

Can a computer virus passively infect the computer by just being online?

Can a computer virus infect my computer just by being online? No downloading or uploading. No file sharing. No instant messaging/chatting. No opening of new browsers or opening email or email contents and such. Just leaving my computer on with my homepage screen and connected to internet.

Answer
Yes. And no. At some point, something HAD to be done to allow access to your system. Once it's already ON your system (via a Trojan Horse or some other "insider" method), it's created what's known as a backdoor... at that point the program running somewhere out there online DOES have access to your computer because you're online... but only because of something that was let into your system at some point in the past.

What computer should i buy for hi definition video editing?

I need a desktop computer to edit hi definition video. And able to run heavy video-editing programs like Adobe CS5, or After effects. What computer should i buy?

Answer
Look at an Intel i7 cpu based computer. Any of the core i7 cpu's should work just fine. The best cpu trade off performance to price is the i7 930. I think the amount of memory and the video card you buy may be more important than the cpu itself. I would go with 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM, at least two 1 Teribyte drives (total, 2 teribytes) and the best ATI video card out there, the ATI HD 5870 or 5870. I would also make sure I was buying Windows 7 ULTIMATE EDITION because it has extra tools in it.

That is what I would get. Now go out and look for computers that meet those kind of specs.

What computer software were computers using before Microsoft was invented? I googled it and couldn't find any info on it. Thanks and no jokes or dissing please.

Answer
hi,
First of all let me tell you one thing that before microsoft there was very little scope for personal computers and softwares related to those computers. Still there were some softwares and software building programming languages. FORTRAN or formula translation, the first high level programming language, was invented by John Backus for IBM, in 1954, and released commercially, in 1957. It is still used today for programming scientific and mathematical applications. Fortran began as a digital code interpreter for the IBM 701 and was originally named Speedcoding. John Backus wanted a programming language closer to human language, which is the definition of a high level language.
At that time the softwares available were Aldus Pagemaker, Trillian, Wordstar, Computer Chess, VisiCalc Spreadsheet. WordStar - The First Word Processor Released in 1979 by Micropro International, WordStar was the first commercially successful word processing software program produced for microcomputers and the best selling software program of the early eighties. first desktop publishing program was created by Paul Brainard and a company called Aldus, the program called "Aldus Pagemaker 1.0" was released in July, 1985 for the "Macintosh" and in December, 1986, for the "IBM". If you go with the history of operating system than previously there was nothing except UNIX.

How much do computer repairmen get paid in the Dallas area?

tws1209

Stop testi

Computer question (How long does an average person keep a computer for?

PS---I would re-post this question in Entertainment and Music, sub category Polls and Surveys.

I think you'll get more responses there than here. Don't ask me why Yahoo in all their wisdom; HID Polls and Surveys under the Entertainment and Music category...go figure.

why does my newly assembled computer not start up ,and the fan starts spinning and immediately stops?

Tan

the computer starts spinning then stops immediately, and the computer does not start, is it a problem with the hardware?
